Richard Aronwald, MD is a board-certified emergency physician at NorthShore. He is a graduate of the Rosalind Franklin School of Medicine and the Jacobi/Montefiore Emergency Medicine Program Affiliate of Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He serves as the medical student clerkship coordinator and the primary instructor for our medical student simulation workshops.

Heather Costello, MD, MPH is a graduate of Michigan State University School of Medicine and will graduate from the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University Emergency Medicine Training Program in 2009. Dr. Costello is an instructor in the Pediatric Mass Casualty Course and is involved in resident training sessions.

Richard Gimbel, MD is a board-certified emergency physician at NorthShore. He is graduate of the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University and the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University Emergency Medicine Training Program. Dr. Gimbel was Chief Resident in 2002. Dr. Gimbel’s is the author of multiple publications related to procedures and emergency triage systems. His presentation of “Factors Affecting Admission Using the ESI Triage Instrument” won the 2002 ICEP Resident Research Forum.

John Flaherty, MD, MPH is a board-certified emergency physician at NorthShore. He is graduate of Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University and the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University Emergency Medicine Training Program. He has been in practice for over 25 years. Dr. Flaherty is triple boarded (EM, Peds EM, and IM) with expertise in Pediatric Advanced Life Support, ultrasound, and emergent procedures. Dr. Flaherty has won numerous resident teaching awards.

Physicians

Justin Griffith, MD is a board-certified emergency physician at NorthShore. He is graduate of Loyola University Medical School and the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University Emergency Medicine Training Program. Dr. Griffith conducts EM resident simulation sessions and teaches emergent procedures.

Fred Hess, MD is a board-certified emergency physician at NorthShore. Dr. Hess is a graduate of the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University and residency training in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine at Northwestern. He has been practicing since 1982. He is a former President of the Professional Staff and the current Medical Director of the Observation Unit at NorthShore. He instructs in the EM resident simulation curriculum.

Noah DeGarmo, MD is a graduate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in and the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University Emergency Medicine Training Program. Dr. Degarmo participates in EM resident simulation and EM and IM procedural training. He was the recipient of the “Best Procedure Teacher” award in his senior year in residency training.

Tim Heilenbach, MD, RDMS is a board-certified emergency physician at NorthShore. He is graduate of Northwestern University Medical School and the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University Emergency Medicine Training Program. He has certified ultrasound expertise in emergent ultrasound procedures. He is the recipient of numerous resident teaching awards.

Daniel Castillo, MD is a graduate of the Medical College of Wisconsin and the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University Emergency Medicine Training Program. Dr. Castillo is an has multiple research publications and is involved in resident simulation and procedural training sessions.

Sarah Donlan, MD is a graduate of the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University and will graduate from the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University Emergency Medicine Training Program in 2009. She is currently serving as Chief Resident. Dr. Donlan is an instructor in resident training sessions and presented the CSTAR Plenary Research Paper at the University of Chicago Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators Research Day.

Evan Laskaris, MD is a graduate of Albany Medical College and the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University Emergency Medicine Training Program. Dr. Laskaris is a member of the Infection Control Committee at NorthShore. He instructs resident procedural and simulation training sessions.

Jon LIppitz, MD is a board-certified emergency physician at NorthShore. Dr. Lippitz is a graduate of the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University and residency training in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine at Northwestern, where he also served as Chief Resident. He is involved with pediatric advanced life support courses and resident procedural and simulation training sessions.

Rachel Norris, MD, MA is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University Emergency Medicine Training Program. Dr. Norris was the recipient of the Thomas R. Mulroy Award for Excellence in Emergency Medicine in 2008. She was a member of the UCLA Women’s NCAA Division 1 Volleyball team from 1988-90. Her interest is in Palliative Care and Geriatric Emergency Medicine. She involved in resident procedural and simulation training sessions.

Brigham Temple, MD is a board-certified emergency physician at NorthShore. He is the Chairman of the Emergency Preparedness Committee. He is graduate of the Medical College of Pennsylvania and the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University Emergency Medicine Training Program.  Dr. Temple is actively involved in International Emergency Medicine and is a board member of the Medical Eye and Dental International Care Organization (MEDICO).

Daria Pachovsky, MD is a board-certified emergency physician at NorthShore. She has been practicing since 1999. She is graduate of Rush University Medical School and the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University Emergency Medicine Training Program. Prior to joining NorthShore, Dr. Pachovsky worked in adult and pediatric specific emergency departments and has taught extensively in Pediatric Advanced Life Support and pediatric emergent procedures.

Jack Whitney, MD is a board-certified emergency physician at NorthShore. He is the Medical Director for the Emergency Medical Service System. His clinical interests include Emergency Medical Service: Education/Training/Administration and Public Health: Disaster Preparedness/WMD training and exercises. He is a member of the Illinois Emergency Medical Response Team (IMERT).  He is current member (since 1994) and past chairman of

the Region X EMS/Trauma Executive Committee. He services as a member of the State EMS/Trauma Advisory Board and Operations Subgroup, State EMS Task Force.
